When Isabel completed high school, she found herself in a painful standstill. Her parents couldn’t afford to send her to college, and despite her best efforts, finding a job was impossible without any formal training or experience. Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, as she remained stuck at home—eager to move forward but unsure how.
Her breakthrough came through a cousin who had previously joined the Good Kenyan Foundation and received a scholarship to further their education. That was the moment Isabel saw a door opening. She applied, hopeful that this would be her chance too—and she was right.
At Good Kenyan, Isabel didn’t just learn technical skills. One of the most transformative parts of her journey came through the life skills classes, which taught her how to communicate effectively, solve problems, make decisions, and build healthy relationships.
“Communicating with people was always a challenge," she shares. “But I learned how to relate with others and handle challenges without feeling stuck."
After completing the program, Isabel received a scholarship to pursue beauty and hairdressing at Ralph Hairworks – an opportunity she couldn’t have afforded otherwise. In just three months, she completed her training and stepped confidently into the workforce.
Today, Isabel is employed in the beauty industry, earning a steady income. She’s not only able to support herself, but she’s also contributing at home – something she once thought was far out of reach.
“Now I’m in a better position. I earn good money, I can help out at home, and I feel proud of what I’ve achieved."
To other young people who are uncertain about their next step, Isabel has this to say:
“Good Kenyan Foundation is worth it. You’ll learn new skills, gain real experience, and walk away with opportunities that can truly change your life."
Isabel’s story is a reminder that even when the future seems uncertain, one opportunity, when embraced with determination, can change everything.
